Patch & Craftsmanship

A strutting tom turkey, tail fanned wide, is hand-painted on a light gray vegan leather patch cut to the shape of the bird, then pressed onto the cap. Charcoal and slate body feathers, a rust-and-cream tail fan, and a red and blue head are all painted by hand. Every True Originals design starts as our own original line art, lasered onto the patch as an outline, with every color painted by hand and a protective topcoat brushed on once the paint dries. It's wearable art: a one-of-one painting you can actually wear. Every patch is an original: hand-painted and packed in our Perkinston, Mississippi workshop. No two are exactly alike, even when we paint another turkey.

Species Notes

A male wild turkey is called a tom or gobbler. When he struts, he fans his tail, drops his wings, and puffs out his body feathers to impress hens. The bare skin of his head and neck can shift between red, white, and blue depending on his mood, and a tuft of bristle-like feathers called a beard hangs from his chest. Turkey hunters spend spring mornings listening for that thunderous gobble.
