About Us
I'm Curtis Matherne, and PM Outfitters started with a simple problem: I couldn't stop buying hats.
For years I was a professor of entrepreneurship — spending my days teaching other people how to build something from nothing, take a real risk, and turn a genuine passion into a business. Somewhere along the way I realized I'd been giving that advice without fully taking it myself. I'd always been a hat enthusiast, the kind of guy with a closet full of trucker hats and an eye for a patch with real character. Eventually the itch to actually build something outweighed the comfort of staying where I was. I left academia to chase it.
That's how PM Outfitters became real. What started as a personal obsession with vintage patches and well-made trucker hats turned into a small workshop in Perkinston, Mississippi, where every hat we sell is still handcrafted by hand, patch by patch — not mass-produced overseas, not pulled off a warehouse shelf.
Why Hats, Why This Way
I've always believed a good hat tells a story before you say a word. A patch from a real vintage find, a nod to your hometown, your alma mater, your favorite band, or just something that made you laugh — that's worth more than another logo everybody already owns. We source vintage patches from collectors and old stock across the country, laser-engrave our own leatherette designs in-house, and build everything on premium Richardson, Legacy, and FlexFit frames. If it's not something I'd actually wear, it doesn't go on the shelf.
Gulf Coast Roots
PM Outfitters is a Mississippi company through and through — Saints games, Mississippi State Saturdays, Gulf Coast festivals, and boat days all show up in what we make. Retro Americana isn't a marketing angle for us; it's just what we grew up around.
Meet Gaston

Every small operation needs quality control, and ours comes in the form of Gaston, our French Bulldog and unofficial head of inspections. He doesn't have particularly high standards, but he's put in the hours.
What We're Building
PM Outfitters will always be small by design. Every hat is handmade, every patch has a reason for being there, and every order ships from the same Perkinston, Mississippi workshop where it was made. If you've found something here that means something to you — your hometown, your school, a memory you didn't expect to see on a hat — that's exactly the point.
