A Long-Tailed Duck in winter plumage is hand-painted onto a patch with a hand-shaded white head, dark cheek patch, and pink-banded bill, then pressed onto the cap. Every patch is an original: hand-painted and packed in our Perkinston, Mississippi workshop. No two are exactly alike, even when we paint another long-tail.

Formerly known as the Oldsquaw, the Long-Tailed Duck is a small Arctic sea duck best known for its elongated, whip-like tail feathers and its remarkable diving ability — it can descend deeper than any other duck species, routinely working depths that leave most divers far behind.
