The Goat, Preserved

The Pontiac GTO launched in 1964 and is widely credited with starting the American muscle car era outright. "GTO" — Gran Turismo Omologato — borrowed from Ferrari's own racing terminology, slapped onto a big-block V8 stuffed into a mid-size body. Enthusiasts called it The Goat. Detroit was never the same.
