One-of-One: Inside Our Hand-Painted True Originals Line
Share
Every hat in our catalog is handcrafted. Only one line is actually one-of-one. This is the story of True Originals — and why, once a piece sells, it's genuinely gone for good.
What "True Originals" Actually Means
Every patch in this line is hand-painted, individually, by hand — not printed, not embroidered from a repeatable digital file, not run through a machine that can spit out an identical copy tomorrow. Even when we paint the same subject twice — say, another Gulf oyster or another blue crab — the actual painting is never the same one. Different brushstrokes, different color mixing, different day. What you're buying is the one and only version of that specific piece of art that will ever exist, set on a quality hat blank and packed and shipped from our workshop in Perkinston, Mississippi.
That's a different promise than "limited edition" or "small batch." Limited editions can still be reordered. True Originals can't be reordered, because there's nothing to reorder — it was painted once, by hand, and that's it.
Gulf South Roots
The subjects for this line come straight from where we live and work. Brown pelican. Blue crab. Gulf shrimp. Gulf oysters. Spanish mackerel. Mahi-mahi. Wood duck. Pheasant. Longear sunfish. These are the animals and seafood that actually show up on Gulf South docks, dinner tables, and duck blinds — not generic wildlife clip art. (One exception on the books: a rainbow trout piece for the trout-stream crowd outside the Gulf region — we're not going to pretend that one's a Mississippi native, but it earned a spot in the lineup anyway.)
Once It's Gone, It's Gone
We mean that literally, and we don't hide it when it happens. Pieces from this line have already sold out — the pheasant and the longear sunfish are both gone, and they're not coming back in that exact form. That's not a marketing trick; it's just what "one-of-one" actually means when we follow through on it. If you see a design you like in this line, that specific piece exists exactly once, and once someone buys it, it's done.
Get There First — Follow Along on Facebook
Before a patch ever gets pressed onto a hat, we post it on our Facebook page. That's the earliest look you'll get — and it's also your chance to claim it and tell us which hat blank you want it on before it's built. If you want first pick of new True Originals pieces instead of finding out after they're already sold, following along on Facebook is genuinely the best way to do it.
How to Shop It
Because every piece here is individually priced original art rather than a mass-produced SKU, sitewide discount codes and promo codes don't apply to this collection — the price you see is the price for that one-of-one piece. Each hat is built on a quality blank (we've used everything from Richardson to Legacy to Otto depending on what suited the piece), and every patch is packed and shipped from our workshop here in Perkinston, MS. Want a specific blank, color, or style for a custom one-of-one piece? Reach out through our Custom page or email us directly at custom@pmoutfitters.net.
FAQ
What does "one-of-one" mean on a hand-painted hat? It means the patch is an individually hand-painted, one-time piece of art — not a reproducible design. Even if we paint the same subject again later, the actual painting will be different, so no two pieces are ever identical.
Will you paint the same design again if it sells out? We may revisit a subject (like another crab or another duck), but the painting itself will always be new and different — the exact piece that sold is gone for good.
How can I see new patches before they're on the website? We post every new patch to our Facebook page before it's ever pressed onto a hat — that's where you can claim a patch and request a specific hat blank before it's built.
Do discount codes apply to True Originals? No — these are one-of-one pieces priced individually, so sitewide promo codes and discount codes don't apply to this collection.
Where are True Originals hats made? Every piece is hand-painted, packed, and shipped from our workshop in Perkinston, Mississippi.
Can I request a custom design? Yes — reach out through our Custom page or email custom@pmoutfitters.net, especially if you have a specific hat blank in mind.
